Named Lakesong to evoke the serenity and melodic rhythm of nature, this residence is a poetic response to its surroundings. Like a song composed of distinct notes forming a harmonious melody, the architecture of Lakesong orchestrates elements of light, landscape, and material to create a dwelling that resonates with its lakeside environment.
Though set one street back from the lake, the home is designed to draw the water in emotionally and visually. Its linear form stretches across the site, maximizing exposure to the lake view. Upon entry, the homeowner is immediately offered a visual connection to the water through a carefully composed procession: an outdoor stair descends toward a pool strategically placed to align with the distant lake. The pool’s surface reflects onto the home's façade and underside of the overhang, gently casting light into the interiors and echoing the lake’s presence throughout the day.
The spatial organization is inspired by the structure of music—each room a note, each transition a pause—forming a rhythm that flows through the house. Material selections, both inside and out, are drawn from the natural world and intentionally juxtaposed: light and dark, smooth and rough, glossy and matte. These contrasts create depth, balance, and a sense of timelessness that allows the home to feel rooted in place.
Every decision in Lakesong is a response to its setting—a song composed to be lived in, where architecture and nature exist in quiet harmony.
