Central District Brewing

Located in the heart of downtown, Central District Brewing is an urban brewery that weaves together elements of nature, history, and connection. CoXist worked closely with the City of Austin and the clients, two couples who got their start brewing beer from their garage, to transform the space--which is uniquely situated underneath the Austin Convention Center parking garage--into a welcoming social club and gathering spot for commuters and visitors alike.

As a nod to the history of downtown, a guiding motif used throughout the space is an arch shape, as seen in the steel elements and the detailing behind the bar. The abstract shape is a modernization of the doors often seen on some of the downtown district’s oldest buildings.

Expanded steel detailing was rusted to imitate a more luxe copper look, while maintaining the urban feel. In order to create a sense of height, old faux glass was used in the seating area, adding a reflective element that expanded the height of the space. Greenery was also incorporated as a way to bring the outdoors in and tie together the urban interior.
